I’m Maty, a photographer based in Prague
I mostly photograph the moments between moments – when people forget they’re in front of the lens. I care less about perfect poses and more about atmosphere, light and what happens naturally. I’m interested in the point where a shoot stops being a “shoot” and turns into an ordinary encounter. When someone forgets about the camera and starts being themselves.
I usually shoot portraits outdoors in the city, at people’s homes or in places with their own atmosphere. Sometimes it’s a planned session, sometimes spontaneous moments that happen along the way.
I shoot on digital and on film, depending on what fits the session. I like film for its slowness and chance, digital for being able to react quickly to what’s happening. I don’t see myself as a photographer for everything. I’d rather think of a shoot as a shared process – about light, space and mood. For me photography isn’t just a service but a way to capture moments and the connections between people.
Besides portraits I shoot smaller events and sometimes weddings. And besides commissions I like working on my own projects, where I can observe things from a bit more distance. If you’re looking for a photographer who tries to be more of an observer than a director, we’ll get on.
I work mainly in Prague but I’m happy to travel elsewhere in the Czech Republic by arrangement. You can get in touch via the contact page.
